Analysis: 

El filibusterismo (The Reign of the Greed) is written with more political force and less charm compared to the first novel. These second novel is a work of mind, it is a social-work, with many chapters and scenes that show how corrupt and debased the society and that is because of the intervention of the friars between state. This novel would definitely hold the interest of many young and old Filipinos, for what is written there was based on the real life story of, how Filipinos were maltreated by the Spaniards at that time.

Crisostomo Ibarra really grows a character in this book. He is obviously not the idealistic and open man he was once before. He became vengeful, angry and in somewhat way dangerous to cross path, well we can’t just blame him, after everthing he went through in Noli Me Tangere, it seems only fitting that he becomes the man who is Simoun, as Crisostomo Ibarra he suffered lots of prejudices in life, from the very beginning and that is his foundation to formulate an appropriate deed. The way we see it, is that Ibarra is not Simoun and Simoun is not Ibarra. They may share the same face, but if we are not speaking about physical attributes, then the only thing they truly did have in common was love for the dear Maria Clara.

Everyone agrees that the El Filibusterismo is far more violent and fair dealing are not given specially to Filipino commonalities. Events such as murder, sexual abuse and racial discrimination were some of the occurrence that we commonly notice. El Filibusterismo is a massive turning point not only for the plot but also for the characters. This particular novel contains various information which is really convincing and awakening us, how the Spanish tyranny in the previous times maltreated the Indio’s and prefer to support their co-Spaniards.

            He hoax the Spanish officials to fall in his trap, befriended them and making them believe that his intentions were pure and candid he also became the confidante of the Spanish governor-general but behind those walls lies all the plans to oppress the Spanish regime. Revolution against the despised Spanish friars and to rescue Maria Clara from the nunnery  are his reason why he choose to come back to his fatherland and fulfill all his plans for he can’t stomach the friars way of dealing the Filipino people.

This novel also provide us tragic and melodramatic story, it is not the cliche type of story that usually started like a fairy tale and ended with the ideal happily ever after that everyone wants to live in. This book is full of melancholy in a sense that Maria Clara died without her knowing that her beloved Crisostomo Ibarra were to saved her from the nunnery. Crisostomo, upon hearing the heartbreaking news of Maria Clara’s bereavement became more furious and it also feels like his dead at the moment.

            The plot of revolution was discovered and that’s the cause why he, Simoun takes poison evading his arrest, rather than being in the hands of the cruel and narrow-minded Spanish authorities. Simoun's story ended in a way that we did not expected it to be; hopefully their forbidden love of Maria Clara would continue on where it supposed to end, but not in the eyes of the mediating people at this time.
